Why Heart With Wings?

Dr. Laura Coulter Created Heart With Wings Because She Believed There Was a Better Way

The purpose of Heart With Wings grew from Dr. Coulter’s experience in general veterinary practice.

She saw how often families were unable to provide the peaceful end-of-life experience they envisioned for their beloved companions. Euthanasia could take place in a busy veterinary hospital, scheduled between appointments, when what families really wanted was time, privacy, and the opportunity to say goodbye in a meaningful way.

That experience inspired Dr. Coulter to create something different.

Heart With Wings was founded with the belief that the final chapter of a pet’s life deserves the same thoughtfulness, compassion, and individualized care as every other stage of their life.

Our purpose is to give families the opportunity to slow down, be present, and focus on what matters most: their pet and the life they have shared together.

Time Matters

  • We understand that saying goodbye to a beloved companion takes time.
  • That is why each end-of-life appointment is approximately 1–1.5 hours. We do not want families to feel rushed through one of the most difficult moments they will experience.
  • This time is about more than the medical procedure itself.
  • It is about answering questions, explaining what to expect, allowing everyone to become comfortable with what is happening, and giving you the opportunity to simply be with your pet.
  • We pay attention to the details because we know the little things matter.
  • Every pet is different. Every family is different. Every relationship is different.
  • We strive to create an experience that feels personal and honours your companion in the way they deserve.

Our Commitment to Hospice & Euthanasia Care

  • We aim to be leaders within our profession when it comes to hospice care and euthanasia.
  • Our care providers are committed to continuing their education and developing specialized knowledge in palliative, hospice, and end-of-life care so that we can provide the highest level of comfort and support possible.
  • Our vision is to provide a peaceful end-of-life care experience for as many pets and families as we can.

Extending Our Care Beyond the Final Goodbye

We put so much effort and attention into the care we provide our patients and families that we wanted that care to continue after their pet passed away.

In 2021, we opened the first independently owned pet crematorium in Simcoe County.

This allows us to continue caring for your pet after their passing and gives families the comfort of knowing that their companion remains within the loving care of our team until they return home.

For many families, knowing that the same compassionate team who cared for their pet during their final moments will also care for them afterward provides tremendous comfort.

We believe this continuity of care matters.

Your pet does not become less important once their life has ended. We believe they deserve to be treated with the same dignity, respect, and compassion throughout their aftercare as they received during their life.

We Care About the Details

  • We know that the little things can make a profound difference during such an emotional experience.
  • From the environment where your pet says goodbye, to the way we communicate with your family, to how your pet is handled after they pass, every detail is considered with care.
  • We want you to feel confident that your pet is safe, respected, and loved throughout every step of the process.

Your Pet Is Family

Your pet is not “just a pet.”

They are a companion, a source of comfort, a part of your daily life, and a member of your family.

Their species, size, or appearance does not change the significance of the relationship you shared or the grief you feel when they are gone.

Every life matters.
Every bond matters.
Every goodbye deserves compassion.

At Heart With Wings, we are honoured to care for your beloved companion — from their senior years and end-of-life journey, through their final moments, and into their aftercare and memorialization.
